Drafting Course Descriptions
Introduction to Technology and Engineering
Grade 9 - 12
2 semesters - 1 credit
This one credit course emphasizes all areas of technology. Students will experience welding as they rotate through Arc, Mig and Oxyacetylene welding labs. Projects will also be completed on the metal lathe, plasma cutter, and Oxyacetylene torch. Students will build a small project in the woods room and experience introductory drafting and electricity.
Students in this class will:
• Learn how to weld with wire feed, arc, and oxyacetylene welders
• Learn operations such as facing and turning on the metal lathe
• Build projects and produce basic joinery techniques from wood
• Produce 3-view orthographic drawings
Drafting
Grades 10 - 12
1 semester - ½ credit
Prerequisite: Intro to Technology and Engineering or instructor recommendation
This course is designed to present the fundamental tools, techniques, theories, and processes that enable one to communicate graphically and develop the basic drafting skills needed for success in college engineering courses. This class is taught using AutoCAD in the technology computer lab. Drafting includes units in both mechanical and architectural drafting processes.
Students in this class will:
• Construct folders to store and organize completed drawings
• Be able to find advantages to AutoCAD vs. traditional drawings
• Demonstrate proficient use of AutoCAD
